Chor Bazar 1954

Storyline

             Circa the Mughal Rule in the Persian Gulf, a noble man asks his soldiers to bring a man trustworthy enough to commit a crime. The soldiers go to the Chor Bazar, where they find a beggar-cum-thief, Yusuf Ustad, and bring him before the noble man. The noble man asks Yusuf to abduct and kill the child, who will be the future king. Greedy Yusuf accepts the offer, but is unable to kill the cherubic child, and ends up abducting him, leaving evidence in blood to show that the child has been killed. The young prince is thus brought on to the streets of this Chor Bazar where he will grow up, and be destined to spend the rest of his life as a thief and beggar.

Storyline

            Wealthy Ramapati Mukherjee is displeased with his nephew, Ajaykumar, when he gets a number of complaints from people in the community. He punishes him, blames his mother for spoiling him, and when Ajaykumar does not relent, has his enrolled in a hostel in the city. From his entry itself, he gets into fisticuffs with other students, then finds fault with the food as well as the teaching methods and is severely reprimanded. Enraged at this humiliation, he and other pranksters, compel the portly school superintendent to quit, and a replacement, Shekhar, takes over. Ajaykumar and his buddies are now all set to try their tricks on Shekhar and they are sure it will not be long before he, too, decides to leave.

Storyline

         Kalu is a taxi-driver in Bombay, India. He has two women who love him and would like to marry him. Kalu first wants to establish himself, and become rich, before he can even think of marriage. One of the women who loves him, has a father who is involved in gangster-type activities, and would like Kalu also to join him so that he can get rich soon. Kalu has now to decide to become rich quick or sleep better.

Storyline

         A young, naive heiress, in custody of a martinet and flamingly feminist aunt is forced into a 'marriage of convenience' with an unemployed cartoonist in an attempt to save her millions - a move orchestrated by the scheming aunt. However, in the course of her ostensibly married life, she learns the true meaning of marriage and the deep significance of being an Indian wife, much to the dismay of her aunt, who, in adherence to her wayward beliefs, has been trying to instill every kind of anti-male sentiment in her niece's ingenuous mind.

Storyline

      After her parents pass away, teenager Gauri goes to live with her paternal uncle, Kashinath, and his wife. She is ill-treated there, made to do all the housework, and abused by her aunt. She is also asked to work as a servant for meager wages in another household, and her earnings are taken away by her aunt. One day, Kashinath is summoned to the Police Station where he is told that since Gauri has been convicted of stealing a necklace from her employer, she is placed under his care for 12 months. Kashinath undertakes to look after her, but she manages to escape, and beats up Bankelal, who had originally accused her of stealing the necklace. The Police are summoned again, and this time Gauri is placed with Shree Satyanand Anarthalaya, an orphanage run by a compassionate Manager, Ashok. Gauri revolts against all the rules imposed upon her and she is placed in solitary, where she ends up breaking all the windows and furniture.

Storyline

     Ashok is a petty thief working under a notorious gangster named Sunder. When Ashok comes across a dead body of a watchman, he reports this matter to the police, much to the anger of some of Sunder's men. Ashok then meets Nimmo, and both fall in love with each other. Nimmo convinces Ashok to give up this life of crime, and begin anew. Ashok agrees, and then when he has not eaten for two or three days, he realizes that it is not that easy to be a honest man. And neither will his former associates let him live very long, nor will they trust their secrets with him as long as he is alive.

Storyline

                  Devdas and Parvati had been inseparable as children, and as they grew older, Love Blossomed. Devdas is sent away for studies by his parents - he and Parvati are separated. A chain of events lead to Parvati being married off to someone else and Devdas drowns his sorrows in alcohol. When Devdas is pronounced critical due to his drinking, he remembers the promise he had made to Parvati, of coming to see her before he dies. Will he fulfilled this promise or not?
