Storyline

    Dr. Sunil Gupta lives a wealthy lifestyle with his wife, Aarti. Although they have been married for several years, they do not have any children. Aarti did get pregnant once, but failed to conceive. Aarti decides to travel to take a break in their Khandala bungalow, which is also in the neighborhood of Aarti's sister Vidya, her son, Raju and her husband's house. Since her bungalow is being decorated by Vinod, whom she remembers as her fellow collegian, both spend considerable time together. When Vinod finds out that Aarti is basically alone most of the time, he proposes to her - but Aarti rejects him, a physical tussle ensues, Aarti grabs a revolver, a shot is fired, Vinod falls down the stairs and dies. Vidya assists Aarti in disposing off his body. A few days later, Sunil joins them in Khandala and brings home a male who claims that he has lost his memory - the male is none other than Vinod - and Sunil's diagnosis is that Vinod will gradually regain his memory.

Storyline

       Kalyani lives in a small tenement with three sons, Vijay, Nandu, and Bhola, all of whom are unemployed, slackers and trouble-makers. One day Nandu gets into serious trouble with Shantilal, who summons the police, and has him arrested. Kalyani goes to the Police Station to plead with the In-Charge Officer to release Nandu, to no avail. She then goes to Shantilal to try to persuade him to withdraw the charges, also to no avail. Finally, she approaches Jagannath and tells him that Nandu is actually his biological son. After listening to her story, Jagannath believes her and accompanies her to the Police Station to bail Nandu out. The next day Jagannath comes to take Nandu to live with him in his palatial bungalow, and Deviyani, Vijay and Bhola bid him a tearful farewell. After settling down in his new surroundings, Nandu starts getting arrogant, and selfish, especially toward Vijay. Vijay and he break into fisticuffs, and Nandu warns Vijay not to set foot in his house.

Storyline

    After being released from jail, Shyamu returns home to his village and his home to his mom, and blind sister, Radha. Shyamu and his mom try to get Radha married, but in vain, as no one wants to marry blind woman. Shyamu takes Radha for treatment to Dr. Ashok, who assures them that her vision can be restored, and the cost is around Rs.5000/-. Shyamu come up with the money, and soon Radha gets her eyesight back. One day, Shyamu rescues a beautiful young woman, Seema, from being raped by Gangu, takes her home, nurses her, and falls head-over-heels in love with her. He hopes to marry her. His mother is thrilled and plans the marriage of both Shyamu and Radha. But there is a hitch in the plans. Seema loves another man - a man to whom Shyamu is indebted to for life. Will this man permit Shyamu to marry Seema?

Storyline

Storyline

  School-teacher Indu lives a middle-class lifestyle along with her widower and unemployed dad, Moolchand Chabbe. They rent the upper floor of the building and her dad makes it his duty to prevent anyone from occupying the lower floor so as not to tamper with the flow of the municipal water pipe-line. Ravi Shankar Chaube, a Poet and an Engineer by profession succeeds in renting the lower floor, impresses Indu so much so that she falls in love with him, and with Moolchand's conditional blessing that he live with them as a Ghar Jamai, both get married. Indu quits her job, and after sometime they become parents of a boy and name him Ashoo. Four years later differences surface as Moolchand spends a lot of Ravi's hard-earned money gambling. Things escalate to such an extent that Ravi puts everyone on a strict budget forcing Indu to get her job back. An enraged Ravi then asks Indu to make a choice - either quit the job or else face divorce proceedings.

Storyline

   The Prasads live in Banaras circa 19th Century, and consist of Bhawani - a thug, who poses as a holy man, luring devotees and robbing them; his wife - who will have nothing to do with his ill-gotten gains; his son, Shankar - like his mother has distanced himself from crime; Shankar's wife and her three children: Kundan, Yashoda and Gopal. Bhawani forcibly takes Kundan with him to follow in his footsteps and forbids him from seeing the rest of the family. Kundan's childhood friend is Munni, an orphan, who leaves for Calcutta after being reunited with her biological parents. Then there is Bhawani's estranged brother, Naubatlal, and his two sons, Ganeshi and Dwarka. Naubatlal and Bhawani have hated each other, and things only get worse after Shankar gets killed, Bhawani claims that Naubatlal killed him, and has him killed. This causes deep strife within Bhawani's family, and he is left alone with only Kundan.

  Sujata gets adopted by the Chowdhury family, which consists of dad Upendranath; mom Charu; and a daughter, Rama, and is treated just like a daughter. Sujata grows up in this caring and nuturing household and leads a very comfortable life. Both Sujata and Rama are now of marriageable age. A young man, Adhir, comes to the Chowdhury household with a view to marry. He meets Sujata and falls in love with her. When he informs his aunt of this decision, she is aghast, as she knows that Sujata is not only of a lower caste but also an untouchable, and she wants Adhir to marry Rama, or will not permit him to live with her. While at the Chowdhury household, Charu wants Sujata to leave the house immediately, as she will have nothing to do with her anymore. Will Adhir and Sujata be ever married or will they be two more victims to the caste system?

         Sharda (Mala Sinha) is the only daughter of a wealthy educationist and founder of Sharda College, Dubeyji (Nazir Hussain), where she is student. Dubeyji hires a young man to take up the position of Professor in this College. The young man's name is Vijay Kumar (Guru Dutt), who makes a lasting and good impression on beautiful Sharda, and both fall in love. Vijay Kumar's mom (Leela Chitnis), and sister, Uma (Lata Sinha) live in a small house in a far off village, and are not wealthy. This affair between a professor and a student spreads like hot fire through the college campus, and angers Dubeyji, so much so that he asks the College Principal, Vidya Ratan, to dismiss Vijay Kumar. But Vidya Ratan is supportive of Vijay Kumar and Sharda, and convinces Dubeyji that it will in everyone's best interest if both get married. Dubeyji relectantly agrees, and the two get married and return to Vijay Kumar's home.

            The Government of India has devised plans for a new kind of super aircraft. A gangster, Diwan, manages to procure this plan from corrupt military officials, and hides it in his safe along with other valuables. The police find out that the plans have been stolen by a "Diwan", and start a manhunt for all Diwans in Bombay. When they come across the Diwan, they ask him to show them his valuables, which he agrees to do so. To his shock, he finds that he has been burgled. The police conclude that the thief is none other than Diwan's trusted man, Ajit. They have him arrested, but he refuses to divulge any information. Diwan recruits a man called Rocky to spring Ajit from prison, as well as find out where he has stashed the valuables. Rocky, who keeps on denying that he is indeed Rocky, agrees to do so for a large sum of money as his fee, to which Diwan agrees. Rocky's plan is to seduce cabaret dancer, Seema, who is the lover of the Jailer, and hence gain entry to the jail.
