Ujala 1959

Storyline

Bombay-based Ramu lives an impoverished lifestyle in a Chawl in Parel along with his widowed mother; sister Sandhya; & three much younger siblings, and makes a living using a wooden pushcart. One day his sister, Munni, is run over by a car, gets hospitalized and passes away. Unable to obtain wood for her cremation, he uses his pushcart, and then joins hands with a Chembur-based gangster, Kalu, and picks pockets. He is able to get some money to feed the family as well as pay for Sandhya's engagement. He then gets into an altercation with one of his associates, Chandu, and the latter gets killed. Guilt-ridden he decides to give up on crime and gets a job sharpening knives. It is is here he will be plagued by the arrival of the police who are investigating Chandu's death - as well as become a suspect when a silver knife goes missing.

Storyline

Young and handsome Shammi and beautiful Kishori are in love, and despite of their circumstances, marry and live in wedded bliss for a short period of time, and then start having differences. Even the birth of a baby boy does not bridge their differences, and eventually Kishori leaves to go to live with her dad, Baba. Shammi and his mom keep the baby with them. Kishori misses the baby, and eventually drives herself to serious illness, which can only be cured when she has the baby with her all the time.

Storyline

Raju and Guddi are childhood friends and neighbors, who are virtually inseparable. They separate tragically, after Raju's dad is arrested after a dramatic police chase for break, enter, and theft. Guddi grows up to become a professional stage singer and dancer, while Raju grows up to be a card-sharp and a thief. Years later both Raju and Guddi meet each, but now Guddi is called Seema, and Raju is called Chander, their real names, both fall in love with each other, without knowing they are childhood friends. While Seema is on her way to her birthplace for religious reasons, Chander too is headed that way, not for religious reasons, but to get himself arrested so that he can be jailed - for a motive that will get him a hefty sum of money from a gangster.

Storyline

Mahendra is in love with Maya and would like to marry her. But Maya is a woman of the 20th century, who does not believe in marriage, but would like to continue having a relationship. Mahendra's family pressures him into getting married, and he finally gives in and marries another woman by the name of Sudha. But Mahendra is unable to get Maya out of his mind, and his marriage with Sudha fails, and ends up with a formal separation. Years later, Mahendra and Sudha meet at a railway station, and both do remember each other, and share their experiences after their separation. There is one shocking experience that Maya does not share, but which Mahendra will find out soon.

Storyline

Based on the circa 2nd century BCE to 2nd Century CE, Sanskrit play "Daridra-Charudatta" by the famous Indian playwright Bhasa, "Utsav" faithfully follows Bhasa's story-line. Vasantasena, a courtesan who dances at the King Palaka's court hides in Charudatta's house while running away from the amorous attentions of the king's brother-in-law. She falls in love with Charudatta, though he is married and penniless. They have an affair. Meanwhile, the rightful heir to the throne - King Palaka's brother - escapes from prison. While he is being pursued by the king's troops, Charudatta helps him. The king's brother-in-law strangles Vasantasena when she refuses to submit to him and leaves her for dead. When Charudatta tries to have her jewels pawned, he is arrested for her murder. What happens to him and the other characters constitutes the final part of the film.

Storyline

While on his deathbed, the Emperor promises that his Senapati, Vikram Singh, will be treated like his son, and he will get married to a woman from a royal family. He also asks Vikram to obey every wish and whim of his wife, Ranimaa, to which Vikram agrees to. A few moments later the emperor passes away. After the formal mourning period is over, Ranimaa announces that she would like Vikram to marry Princess Priya. Vikram agrees to this, and soon Priya and he are married with great pomp and ceremony. After this marriage, Priya learns that Vikram really loves a prostitute named Kesarbai, and has only married her as he had promised to obey every wish and whim of Ranimaa. She also finds out that Kesar and Vikram had a baby girl as a result of this relationship. She complains to Ranimaa, and Ranimaa asks Kesar to take her child and leave this region, which she does. Years later, Ranimaa's second son meets with an attractive young woman named Renu, and both fall in love.

Storyline

Prem Kapoor is a businessman who lives in a small town with his wife, Bhavna, who is a Judge, and two children, Sunil and Babli. One Sunday, he gets a visitor by the name of Prakash Dutt, who has brought a letter from a woman named Sneh who lives in Bombay, has known Prem for the last seven years, and wants to urgently meet with him. Prem departs for Bombay, meets with Sneh and finds out that he is the father of a seven year old boy, Bittu, who is Sneh's son, as a result of intimacy shared between them over seven years ago. Sneh has been diagnosed with cancer and is not expected to live long, she wants Bittu to be taken care of, and Prem agrees to do so. He takes Bittu home with him, while Sneh goes to America for treatment. It is here that Prem will be confronted by Bhavna on one hand, his children on the other, and a blackmailer who wants a huge sum of money to keep the truth about Sneh and Prem's affair from Bhavna and the children.

Storyline

Vikram Mehta alias Vicky is one of two children in the wealthy Mehta family. He has fallen in love with with Reshmi, who is the daughter of Shamsher Singh, his father's business associate, and both would like to get married. Sonia is the second child in the Mehta family, which also consists of Anju, her mom, and dad, Dhanpathrai. While both her mom and dad had agreed in a heartbeat to Reshmi's marriage with Vicky, they show considerable hesitation when Sonia introduces the young man she loves, Ravi Malhotra, who is employed as a Police Inspector. What Sonia does not know is that her dad is criminal don, along with Shamsher Singh, and they will never permit a man who works for the police to become their son-in-law. When Sonia persists, her parents give in, and again Sonia is kept in the dark - for Dhanpathrai has issued instructions to his men to kill Ravi - as he believes this is the only solution that will prevent Sonia from insisting on marrying him.

Storyline

The British did not give India its independence on a silver platter. Independence was the result of a long and bloody battle. "Kranti" is the story of how two men became soldiers in that battle. Sangha is a honest and dedicated employee in the kingdom of Ramgarh, owing allegiance and loyalty to no one except Raja Laxman Singh. When Laxman Singh conditionally permits the British to use the port for trading purposes, Sangha finds out that the British are taking out gold and jewelery and bringing in ammunition, he puts a stop to this. He goes to report this outrage to Laxman Singh, only to find him stabbed to death and he charged with treason and of killing him. Sentenced to death, he escapes and forms a group of revolutionaries who have only one motto - drive the British out of India. This group multiplies into several armies, all united with one slogan - an Independent India. Which is also known as Kranti.

Storyline

Sharda and her sister Poornima alias Nima live with their widowed father. Since both have come of age, he first arranges Sharda's marriage with a businessman named Balraj Kohli. Subsequently, Poornima also marries a wealthy young man. But fate has other plans for Nima, for her husband tragically passes away in an accident, leaving her widowed. When Sharda sees her sister in a widow's garb, she loses her mental balance and is institutionalized in Pune Mental Hospital. After approximately 14 years, an inmate strikes Sharda on her head, she loses consciousness for several days. When she regains her senses, she remembers everything that happened 14 years ago, but is unable to recollect her life in the mental hospital. Her treating psychiatrist is ready to discharge her to the care of her husband and her family. Sharda comes home, everything is about the same, except that her son, Sagar, has grown up and is about to be engaged to Sarita Sethi, and Nima still wears a widow's garb.
