Dr. Vishwas comes to the assistance of accident victim, Ahmedabad-based Javed Siddiqui, the Editor of 'Inquilaab', and the recently appointed Chair of the Inquiry Commission on religious riots that took place in Gujarat during August 2004. He not only medically treats Javed but also drives him to his residence where he lives with his wife, Ayesha. On his way home, Vishwas finds out that Javed has forgotten some documents in his car, and drives back to return them. He does not know that soon he will be taken captive by a gun-toting Ayesha, who also suspects that Javed is having an affair with a woman named Madhu, and who believes that Vishwas had sexually molested her 14 times in 3 days during August 2004.

Vijaykumar lives a poor lifestyle along with his honest store-owner widower father, Mohanlal, in a small town. The latter sells his merchandise at a reasonable price much to the chagrin of his competitor, Lalchand, who plants drugs in his store and has him arrested. Unable to bear the shock and humiliation, he passes away, leaving Vijaykumar in the care of his doctor. The latter grows up, becomes a graduate in Science, and re-locates to Bombay to be employed and live with wealthy Champalal and his daughter, Geeta. Vijaykumar does not know that Champalal's partner is none other than Lalchand, who wants his son, Kishore, to wed Geeta, and is all set to create obstacles and challenges for him by marketing untested creams and painkillers.

Shraddha lives in Mahim, Bombay, with her widowed dad, younger school-going brother, Bittu; a step-brother and his wife, Rani. When her dad passes away, he leaves all the property in Bittu's name, which does not auger well with Rani and her husband. They lock Shraddha and Bittu in a room, refuse to feed them in order to force him to sign the papers. Both manage to escape, but Bittu is killed when boiling oil falls on his body. An unconscious Shraddha is rescued by her long-time boyfriend, Amit Kumar, who takes her to a hospital, and after she recovers, gets married to her. She is welcomed in the Kumar residence, which consists of Geeta, Amit's mom, and Raju, Amit's school-going brother. Raju welcomes Shraddha initially, but begins to hate her when she becomes pregnant. Then a business rival, Laxmi Narayan, breaks into their house in order to steal money.

After having been married to India-based Mr. Thakur for several years, suddenly Mrs. Thakur and her grown daughter, Meena, decide to re-locate and settle down in a communist country, and do so without notifying Mr. Thakur. Worried about their whereabouts, Mr. Thakur hires a young man, Jai, to go locate them, and if possible bring them back. Jai accepts this assignment and soon arrives in the foreign country, which is ruled by a military general who has never shown his face to anyone. Assuming the identity of Shinraaz, Jai goes around trying to locate the two women, and does find Meena, who works as a dancer in a posh hotel. It is here that Jai will learn what brought Meena and her mom to this country, and why both are unwilling to return to India.

Avinash, an M.A. student, is an idealistic young man with socialist views and stern principles. He is not affected by materialistic nature of his generation and strongly opposes acquiring wealth, more than needed. He is son of a wealthy landlord but has left his father's house because of philosophical differences. He works as a part time writer to meet his daily living. He finds an admirer in Geeta, his classmate and daughter of a textile mill owner, who falls in love with him for his outlook. Geeta also leaves her father's house and get married and soon to have a child. Avinash finds it difficult to manage this extended family. Financial insecurity forces him to join a publishing house owned by his classmate Satish Shah. Soon he starts transforming into a ruthless businessman and treads the very path, once he loathed. Geeta is surprised of his easy withdrawal of principles. She decides to leave him.
